FAQ
How do we get to Star Island?
We depart from the Portsmouth NH dock on a Sunday afternoon and return the following Sunday morning.
What is the food like?
All Star Island stays include three wholesome meals a day, always with a vegetarian option, self-served in our cafeteria. Guests dine at long family style tables, or at picnic tables on the front deck of the hotel.
The NHW conference also sponsors a daily social hour with cocktails on one of the decks overlooking the island. It’s a great way to meet your fellow conferees, and relax after a long day of learning, exploring… and relaxing. Throughout the day and evening a snack bar is available with sweet, savory, hot, cold and caffeinated options, ice cream, and the famous Lime Rickeys.
Can I bring my kids and my dog?
Children are not restricted from attending NHW, however, we ask that they be supervised at all times by a parent or guardian because formal child care or an activity program is not offered. Sorry, but your dog will have to stay home.
Will there be religious services?
Star Island is owned by the Unitarian Universalist Association, and our conference has a minister who will offer non-denominational programs in the morning. Lay led evenings in the candle-lit chapel are also a part of the soulful Star Experience, if you choose to participate. Attendance is optional, and people of all faiths, or no faith, are welcome on Star Island and at the NHW conference.
Does the hotel offer spa services?
While there is no spa (or sauna, hot tub or pool), there are two licensed massage therapists who offer treatments every day. Sign up at the front desk.
Does the island have wi-fi?
Yes, the large hotel has strong wi-fi, as do some of the outbuildings. Depending on your carrier cellular service is available throughout the island. That said, why not consider taking a screen break on Star to get the most from your vacation?
Do you ave a brochure I can share by email?
Yes! Click here to download a two-page PDF.
